Verzamelaars kennen de pijpjes met het merk IG gekroond, die zowel in Schoonhoven als in Gorinchem zijn gemaakt. Bij de meeste exemplaren is de afkorting IG gekroond met óf de vroegere parelkroon óf de latere bladerkroon.
Opvallend aan dit exemplaar is dat beide kroontypen zijn gebruikt. Het pijpje is dus vermoedelijk vervaardigd in de overgangsperiode tussen beide kroontypen. Er zijn twee identieke pijpjes in Gorinchem gevonden, wat erop wijst dat dit exemplaar waarschijnlijk ook daar is geproduceerd.
Collectors are familiar with the pipes bearing the IG crowned mark, which were produced in both Schoonhoven and Gorinchem. On most examples, the IG is crowned with either the earlier pearl crown or the later leaf crown. What makes this particular pipe stand out is that both crown types have been used. It was therefore likely made during the transitional period between the two crown styles. Two identical pipes have been found in Gorinchem, suggesting that this example was probably produced there as well.
