Machiel (Andriesz) van Oosterhout was pijpenmaker in Schoonhoven. Hij maakte deel uit van het gildenbestuur in de jaren 1767, 1771 en 1774. Hij was werkzaam van circa 1714/1720 tot aan zijn overlijden in 1774. Aangenomen wordt dat hij oorspronkelijk het merk M met kroon gebruikte, zonder initialen. Later, tot circa 1750/1760, gebruikte hij de initialen MAO in combinatie met de versieringsmotieven M met kroon en het wapen van Utrecht. Vervolgens gebruikte hij de initialen MVO in combinatie met de versieringsmotieven M met kroon, N met kroon, een vis (met en zonder golfjes), een eiermand en IG met kroon. Mogelijk heeft hij ook de initialen MOA gebruikt.

Machiel (Andriesz) van Oosterhout was a pipe maker in Schoonhoven. He was a member of the guild board in the years 1767, 1771, and 1774. He was active from approximately 1714/1720 until his death in 1774. It is assumed that he initially used the mark of a crowned M without initials. Later, until around 1750/1760, he used the initials MAO in combination with the decorative motifs of a crowned M and the coat of arms of Utrecht. Subsequently, he used the initials MVO in combination with the decorative motifs of a crowned M, a crowned N, a fish (with and without waves), an egg basket, and IG crowned. He may also have used the initials MOA.
