Edward Bird geboren rond 1610 in Surrey in Engeland kwam in 1624 naar Nederland om voor Holland te vechten. In 1630 vestigde hij zich in Amsterdam als pijpenmaker en in dat jaar was hij getrouwd met Aaltje Goverts. In 1645 was zijn bedrijf gevestigd in de Jordaan op de hoek van de Egelantiersgracht. Hij is actief geweest van 1630 tot zijn overlijden in 1665. Hij is toen begraven bij de Westerkerk. Zijn zoon Evert Bird zette na zijn overlijden het bedrijf voort, maar met minder succes. Toen zijn vrouw Aaltje Goverts in  1659 overleed trouwde hij opnieuw met Anna van der Heijden. Het merk wat zij gebruikte was EB ongekroond in cirkel.

Edward Bird, born around 1610 in Surrey, England, came to the Netherlands in 1624 to fight for Holland. In 1630, he settled in Amsterdam as a pipe maker, and that same year, he married Aaltje Goverts. By 1645, his company was located in the Jordaan district, on the corner of the Egelantiersgracht. He was active from 1630 until his death in 1665, when he was buried at the Westerkerk. His son, Evert Bird, continued the business after his father's death but with less success. When his first wife, Aaltje Goverts, passed away in 1659, he remarried Anna van der Heijden. The mark he used was EB uncrowned in a circle.
