Firma Gambier 1780-1923
De Firma Gambier is opgericht door de uit Dieppe afkomstige Jean Gambier in 1780. Aanvankelijk was het een eenvoudig familiebedrijf, maar het groeide uit tot een van de grootste pijpenmakers van Europa. Vooral in de 19e eeuw stond het bekend om de hoge kwaliteit en gedetailleerde, artistieke afwerking van zijn pijpen. De fabriek was gevestigd in de Franse Ardennen, in het plaatsje Givet, waar goede kwaliteit klei werd gedolven. Het bedrijf was actief tot 1923. Vanaf 1848 was er een verkoopkantoor in Parijs.
