Dyonis (Nijs) Bakker was pijpenmaker in Schoonhoven. Hij trouwde in 1717 met Maria Nobel. Hij maakte pijpen van 1708 tot aan zijn overlijden in 1728. Het is niet zeker of hij in 1708 al zelfstandig pijpenmaker was. Mogelijk gebruikte hij de initialen IB (Ionys Bakker) op zijn pijpen. Zijn weduwe zette het bedrijf voort tot circa 1740. Ook hun oudste zoon Govert en hun jongste zoon Nicolaas waren gedurende een bepaalde periode als pijpenmaker actief. De pijpjes die hier zijn afgebeeld met de initialen IB schrijven wij onder voorbehoud aan hem toe, maar ze kunnen ook elders zijn gemaakt.

Dyonis (Nijs) Bakker was a pipe maker in Schoonhoven. He married Maria Nobel in 1717. He produced pipes from 1708 until his death in 1728. It is uncertain whether he was already working independently as a pipe maker in 1708. He may have used the initials IB (Ionys Bakker) on his pipes. His widow continued the business until around 1740. Their eldest son Govert and their youngest son Nicolaas were also active as pipe makers for a period of time. The pipes shown here bearing the initials IB are tentatively attributed to him, but they may also have been made elsewhere.
