Het merk HI ongekroond, dat in de 17e eeuw in gebruik was, komt voor in meerdere productiecentra, waaronder Rotterdam, Leiden, Amsterdam, Gouda, Hoorn en Leeuwarden. Ook uit Utrecht is een pijpenmaker bekend die dit merk in een parelring op de hiel plaatste, al blijft zijn identiteit vooralsnog onbekend. De hier besproken exemplaren dragen dit merk en vertonen de voor Utrecht kenmerkende slanke, dubbelconische ketelvorm. Deze drie pijpjes zijn afkomstig uit een partij uit de antiekhandel, waarin een opvallend aantal Utrechtse producten vertegenwoordigd was. De oorspronkelijke herkomst van de verzameling is niet achterhaald.

The HI un-crowned mark, in use during the 17th century, is documented from several production centers, including Rotterdam, Leiden, Amsterdam, Gouda, Hoorn, and Leeuwarden. A pipe maker from Utrecht is also known to have applied this mark within a beaded circle on the heel, although his identity remains unknown. The specimens discussed here bear this mark and display the slender, double-conical bowl form characteristic of Utrecht. These three pipes originate from a lot acquired through the antique trade, which contained a notable number of Utrecht products. The original provenance of the collection could not be established.
